Kelly Martin joins Caint Portmarnock Speech Therapy Team

Kelly Martin recently joined the CAINT Speech Therapy Team in February 2016. Kelly is currently working between the Naas and our new Portmarnock Speech Therapy clinic. Our Portmarnock Speech Therapy Clinic opens on the 1st June 2016.

Before obtaining a Masters in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Limerick, Kelly graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology with an Honours degree in Early Childhood Education in 2010.

Kelly previously worked as a Special Needs Preschool Teacher. In this role Kelly gained experience working with children aged 2-6 years who presented speech and/or language difficulties including language impairments, Downs Syndrome, profound hearing loss, select mutism and Autism. Kelly worked closely with a Speech and Language Therapist and implemented individual programmes.

Kelly also worked as an ASD home tutor. In this role Kelly identified each child’s strengths and weaknesses and developed and implemented individual home programmes to target areas of difficulty. Kelly used language systems including PECS and Lámh to support the children’s communication. Kelly also liaised with SLT and OT professionals where appropriate and incorporated their goals into the home programmes.

Since working as a Speech and Language Therapist, Kelly has gained experience assessing, differentially diagnosing and planning individual programmes for children and young people presenting with a variety of Speech, Language and/or Communication difficulties including Stuttering, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Speech and/or Language Delays and Down’s syndrome. Kelly has developed home and school programmes for children with speech and/or language difficulties and links with teachers to develop curriculum based goals.

Kelly has developed experience assessing and providing treatment to adults with fluency disorders. Kelly has also worked with adults with intellectual disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Based on each client’s strength and weaknesses Kelly develops functional goals for each client.
