Assessments for children
CAINT Speech Therapy offer a wide range of assessments to assess the needs of our clients and patients. The most important phase is the assessment of the results and the development (where needed) of a individual treatment programme.
There are many assessments in use for investigating children’s language abilities. The following are a selection of assessments that are used by speech and language therapy services in Ireland:
- Language for Thinking assessment – inferential thinking and understanding
- ACE 6-11 – a battery of receptive, expressive and pragmatic language tests
- RAPT – picture naming and grammar/content analysis
- TROG – understanding of language
- PVCS – preverbal communication checklist
- CLEAR – phonology screening assessment
- STAP – expressive phonology
- DEAP – expressive phonology
- CELF-PS – as above, for Pre-School aged children
- Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test
- Derbyshire picture test – simple understanding
- CELF-4 – a battery of expressive and receptive language tests
- BPVS – a receptive assessment of vocabulary
- RWFVS – Picture naming/vocabulary test
- STASS – expressive grammar
- The Bus Story Test – early narrative assessment
For adults
- Boston diagnostic battery
- PALPA – Psycholinguistic Assessment of Language Processing in Aphasia
- WAB – Western Aphasia Battery
